Operation Christmas Child

What is Prestonwood Cares Operation Christmas Child?

Operation Christmas Child is a Prestonwood Cares initiative in partnership with Samaritan’s Purse. With help from the Prestonwood community, shoeboxes filled with small gifts and a Gospel tract bearing the Good News of Jesus Christ are collected to be delivered to children throughout the world. Children and families receiving the shoeboxes are presented with the Gospel and given an opportunity to respond. Every 24 hours during the delivery season, more than 30,100 people hear the Gospel and an average of 10,734 people enroll in The Greatest Journey, the discipleship ministry of Operation Christmas Child. Your participation in this amazing ministry ensures that thousands of children around the world receive a special gift (which, for many, may be the first gift ever received), hear the Good News of Jesus Christ, and are connected to a church in their community or village.

How can I be involved?

  1. The most important way to help is to pray for this ministry.
  2. a. Purchase a plastic shoebox, or
    b. Find a shoebox you have at home.
  3. Fill the shoebox with items from the list found in the Operation Christmas Child “How to Pack a Shoebox” brochure.(Brochures are available at the Prestonwood Cares Supply Stations, located on all Prestonwood Campuses. If brochures are unavailable, click here for online instructions.)

Volunteers are also needed to help collect shoeboxes and prepare them for delivery. If you are interested in volunteering, e-mail missions@prestonwood.org or call 972-820-5030.

What if I can’t pack a shoebox but want to participate?

There are many costs associated with getting these shoeboxes and Gospel materials to the children who need them. Donations are greatly appreciated and will help to offset these costs. Donations can be made at samaritanspurse.org/occ, or by dropping off a check or cash at one of the Prestonwood Cares Supply Stations. CHECKS MUST BE MADE PAYABLE TO “Operation Christmas Child.”
