What Are Prestonwood Cares Food Paks?
Nearly 300,000 children in North Texas are “food insecure,” which means they don’t know where their next meal will come from. Two-thirds of those households must choose between food and paying for medical care where low wages and underemployment are major factors. Prestonwood Cares, a compassion ministry of Prestonwood Baptist Church, is committed to serving the people of our community, across the nation and around the world for Christ. One of our initiatives is Food Paks, small boxes that each contain a week’s worth of food for an average family of four. Our goal in 2020 is to provide 1,000 weeks of food resources to families across North Texas.
How Can I Be Involved?
The most important way to help is to pray for this ministry, and then pick up an empty Food Pak at one of the Prestonwood Cares Supply Stations at any Prestonwood campus. Fill the empty Food Pak with food items listed on the brochure attached to the Food Pak. Completed Food Paks must be returned no later than Sunday, February 23, at any Prestonwood Cares Supply Station.
What If I Can’t Fill a Food Pak but Want to Participate?
Food Paks can be completed for you when you make an online donation. One Food Pak can be filled and delivered for $12. Visit ChildrensHungerFund.org/Prestonwood and click “Donate Now.” Your donation will be credited to Prestonwood Baptist Church.
Volunteers are also needed to help distribute empty Food Paks and take in the completed Food Paks when returned. If you are interested in volunteering, e-mail missions@prestonwood.org for more information.

How To Pack A Food Pak
1. Prepare
Build your Food Pak by sealing the bottom flaps with clear packing tape—don’t interlock the flaps to keep the bottom smooth for stacking.
2. Shop
Fill the box with items from the Food Pak grocery list below (this information is also provided in the brochure that came with the box).
1 bag dried fruit (6 oz.)
1 bag trail mix (11 oz.)
1 bottle cooking oil (24 oz.)
1 box granola bars (8.4 oz.)
1 box pasta (16 oz.)
1 can chicken (10 oz.)
1 can chicken broth soup (14 oz.)
1 can corn (14.5 oz.)
1 can green beans (14.5 oz.)
1 can peaches (15.25 oz.)
1 can pears (15.25 oz.)
1 can tuna (10 oz.)
1 can refried beans (16 oz.)
1 jar peanut butter (18 oz.)
2 bags pinto beans (16 oz.)
2 cans tomato sauce (8 oz.)
Substitutes:
1 bag beef jerky (3 oz.)
1 can nuts (12 oz.)
3. Read & Pray
Take time to read a few verses and pray for the family who will receive this box. Begin with James 1:26–27, Psalm 145:13–16, or 2 Corinthians 8:1–9.
- Thank God for the way He provides for you and your family.
- Pray that the family who receives this Food Pak will turn to Christ as the One who provides.
- Pray that the volunteers who deliver the Food Pak will build a godly relationship with the family.
4. Give
Please complete the form (provided in the brochure) with your information and include $5 (cash or check) for each Food Pak to cover cost of distribution. Donations above $5 are gratefully appreciated and all donations (including the cost of the donated food items) are tax deductible. Please make checks payable to “Children’s Hunger Fund.”
5. Complete
Remove the completed information form and the “Packed with Love By” slip from the brochure. Place both of these along with your check or cash into the sleeve on the flap of the box. Seal the Food Pak with packing tape, but don’t interlock the flaps.
6. Return
Return completed Food Paks to a Prestonwood Cares Supply Station by Sunday, February 23.
Completed Food Paks will be distributed to help those in need within our community.
