The Kachari people live in Maharashtra and speak Marathi. Some live in Tamil Nadu or Karnataka. They make their living through agriculture, and the women are known for their weaving. Their social organization is based on a council that looks after their needs. Interestingly, the Kachari allow the bereaved and the divorced to marry again. On the death of the father, in their culture, the sons inherit the property.

Their religion is a mixture between Hinduism and their local religion. They celebrate a spring festival known as Bihu. This is their main cultural festival, and they celebrate with neighbors. Every April, the Kachari also celebrate something known as the Taro Chira.
