Also known as Béntar or Macaguán, the Southern Barasano are part of the family of Barasano ethnic groups. They only live in Colombia. The people make their living through fishing, hunting and agriculture. Their social organization is complicated, based on clans and lineages. They have their own mythology which is tied to their shamanistic religion. In fact, Southern Barasano shamans perform rituals that often involve psychoactive substances. This tribe is desperately trying to protect their homeland and way of life, because they face displacement and violence from outside logging interests.
